BoroPark24: This Shabbos Parshas Lech Lecha marks the 1-year anniversary since Masbia started catering Shabbos Meals

This Shabbos Parshas Lech Lecha marks the 1-year anniversary since Masbia started catering Shabbos Meals. From then, Masbia’s doors have been open to those in need every single week of the year, including Shabbos Hagadol.

“I ate with my family at Masbia almost every Shabbos since we started serving Shabbos meals,” says Alexander Rappaport of Masbia.  “The atmosphere and food are unlike anything you have ever seen.” Reservations for Shabbos are made in advance so that every person is ensured a comfortable seat. Guests are served as if they were in an elegant restaurant. Volunteer waiters serve each person with dignity and respect. It is interesting to note that Shabbos Nachamu was the busiest Shabbos at Masbia. During the year, guests can get invited to Sheva Brachos, Aufrufs, and other Simchas. For those weeks where a guest might not have where to go, Masbia is there with open doors and heavenly food.

Masbia is a soup kitchen network and food pantry. They are well known for the delicious, nutritious meals they serve to New Yorkers in need. From Sunday to Friday, Masbia always provides for people with amazing service and a warm smile.

Besides for serving meals to hundreds of individuals every day, Masbia distributes groceries and other essential items each week and before major holidays. Throughout the month of Tishrei, Masbia held four grocery distributions, one before every Yom Tov.  Each one got successively bigger as more families turned up.

Because of the great demand, the weekly grocery distribution will now take place over two days. Larger families with 6 or more members are encouraged to come Wednesday night instead of Thursday morning (when the distribution regularly takes place). This will help ensure a smoother process so that each patron can get the assistance and supplies they need.

Masbia’s services include daily dinners, grocery distributions, and Shabbos Meals.
