It couldn’t have been a more timely delivery, with Masbia Soup Kitchen Network, DoorDash and Tnuva USA teaming up during the Nine Days to deliver 2,800 frozen kosher pizzas to local families.

With Tnuva having some 3,000 pounds of Maadanot Mama Mia pizzas with freshness dates of July 31 in its warehouse, the company chose to donate the frozen goodies to Masbia instead of sending them to a local landfill. Unable to store the pizzas given the sheer volume of the delivery, Masbia sent out a robocall to families in Boro Park and Flatbush on July 19, telling them the pizzas were theirs for the taking, with free, immediate delivery to their homes.

Being able to send out 350 cases of frozen pizzas, each one containing eight 17.9-ounce pies, to families in need of assistance was tremendously rewarding to Masbia executive director Alexander Rapaport.

“We hope that more companies follow Tnuva’s lead,” Rapaport told The Boro Park View. “The trick is not to come a day after the expiration date, but to come a week or two before, so that we can quickly get it out with the help of DoorDash to hundreds or even thousands of families in one day.”
