Masbia Relief Team In Hamodia: Masbia Assists Kentucky Flood Victims
Staff of Masbia, a New York-based, Orthodox Jewish-run food network, traveled to Jackson, Kentucky, this week, to assist victims of catastrophic flooding in the area.
In addition to their usual role of providing hot meals and groceries in Brooklyn and Queens, Masbia in recent years has traveled to various disaster sites around the country to donate and distribute food and other essentials to those in need.
All boxes of goods donated by Masbia were spray-painted with the words, “With love from the Jewish community.”
“One of the shelters we visited has a blind person, another one with kidney problems, and lots of families who simply lived too close to the river,” said Masbia Executive Director Alexander Rapaport. “It’s terribly heartbreaking to see how people lost everything — some homes didn’t even any debris left; you just see some of the foundation. Despite all the sadness, the community in Kentucky was excited to hear that the Masbia Relief Team came all the way from New York to help them. It was gratifying to be able to assist these people who had lost so much — by providing material goods as well as by bringing smiles to their faces, and letting them know that through all their suffering, there are people who care.”
